It was just 4 short months ago the Chamber announced Axium Plastics was opening a new manufacturing facility in Jefferson City. A lot has happened since that hot August day and Axium has been working at lightning speed to be up and running in the Partnership Business Park located on Shamrock Road.
Axium Plastics purchased the 50,000 square foot Chamber owned speculative building in May and after evaluating several local contractors hired Stark Construction Services. James Stark, his crew and over a dozen local subcontractors started working to finish out the building according to company specifications including adding office space, pouring concrete floors, adding silos and completing parking lots.
Located on just under 11 acres, when the buildout is complete it will boast an impressive 125,000 square feet with a clear ceiling of 30 feet.
Initially, the company projected $18 million capital investment in building and equipment and 70 jobs within 3 years. To date, the company has far exceeded their initial numbers with the capital investment over $26 million and 80 people already employed and they are still hiring more!
You may wonder what this company produces. The company designs and manufactures plastic bottles. They have hundreds of products and supply to companies in Jefferson City, St. Louis and Kansas City and other markets.
Jefferson City will make the 5th plant for Axium. The company is headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. It also has manufacturing locations in Lawrenceville, Georgia; Ontario, California and Mississauga, Ontario.
The company evaluated several communities including St. Louis, Kansas City and Chicago before selecting Jefferson City.
“We commend Jefferson City, Cole County, the Chamber of Commerce and their business partners for the effort they put forward,” said Tammy Hoffman, Chief Operating Officer with Axium Plastics. “We appreciate all of the support from the community and are excited about the opportunities that the Capital City will provide.”
The company is currently taking applications at 355 Shamrock Road.
