Jefferson City is one of four cities competing in the rural category for the Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB) of Des Moines Strong Communities Award. The award honors the projects, the people and the programs that promote small business growth and retention in rural and urban communities.
The Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce, Cole County, and the City along with various other community representatives and investors worked together to show CCP that Jefferson City was the right place to open their new facility. They are on target to fill nearly 200 jobs by the end of 2016.
“When RR Donnelly closed, it was imperative that our community work together to attract a business to fill the space, said Missy Bonnot, Director Economic Development, Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce. “We knew competition would be steep and our team came together to ensure Jefferson City was an attractive option for CCP.”
Hawthorn Bank, a member of FHLB, financed the purchase of the former RR Donnelly location and has worked very closely with the ownership group throughout the entire process of securing the tenant. Hawthorn Bank submitted the initial application for the Strong Communities Award.
“We are always willing to support efforts that help make our community stronger, said Chris Schrimpf, Hawthorn Bank. “We believed in this team and their ability to bring a quality employer and jobs back to this great community and they delivered.”
Hawthorn Bank plans to give any award money to the Chamber for use within their economic development efforts. The Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce would allocate these funds to a Labor Availability Study.
A public vote is part of the final selection process and the community is encouraged to go to www.fhlbforcommunity.com/voting between October 5 and October 16 to vote for Jefferson City. The winner will receive a $15,000 award to promote small business and economic development in their communities. The runner up in both the rural and urban categories will receive $3,000.
Individuals can vote every day, once per day, during the 12-day voting period.
