Continental Commercial Products coming to Jefferson City!

April 1 was a big day in Jefferson City and it wasn’t an April Fool Joke when the Chamber announced a new company locating to our community! 

There has been quite a bit of information about this new company in the news since that time and I have been asked many questions about this exciting project so I thought I would answer a few of the questions in this article.

 

What products will CCP produce in Jefferson City?

The company specializes in the Janitorial and Food Service Cleaning Products and Retail Storage Products and manufacturers over 150 products although there are 15-20 primary products.  The products are categorized in 2 different areas.

  • Waste & Recycling Receptacles & Accessories

Why did the company select Jefferson City?

According to Brian Nichols, Vice President- Human Resources, there were three primary reasons:

  1. The building located at 321 Wilson Drive was an excellent fit for CCP’s needs and processes.
  2. The incentive package the community provided was competitive and showed a long term investment into the company.
  3. The entire community team that came together to provide resources and support including Jefferson City, Cole County,  Jefferson City Public Schools, State Technical College of Missouri, the facility owners and local legislators all played a big part of our decision.  No other community that was considered did that and we were impressed how fast everyone came together.

 

What other communities did CCP consider? 

St. Louis, Mo; Vandalia, IL; and Fort Wayne, Indiana

 

How long did it take to work on the project before the company made the decision?

This was a very fast project.  We first received a call about the potential project the first of February.  From the time of the first call to the announcement was about eight weeks.

  

When will the company start hiring?

The company will begin hiring in the next few months. They will be advertising positions and holding job fairs in the very near future as well as working with temporary staffing agencies.  When the dates are set for the job fairs they will be publicized.

 

How many people will they be hiring?

They will be hiring 150 people by December of 2015 and approximately 50 people in 2016.

 

Is the company buying the former RR Donnelley building?

No, there is a local group that owns 321 Wilson and CCP will lease a large portion of the building.  The total square footage of the building is 650,000 square feet and CCP is leasing 534,000 square feet.

 

What incentives were offered to the company?

The city and the county agreed to provide tax abatement on real and personal property.  The city and county are also providing $500,000 in an infrastructure grant to help get raw materials from the rail to inside the building.

 

What happens if the company doesn’t create the jobs they say they are going to?

There will be a performance agreement the city, county and the company will agree to in the next several months.  If the company doesn’t create the jobs, investment and wage rate they agree to with a specific time period, they will have to pay the money back to the city and the county. 

 

When will the company move into the building?

The equipment will be moved in June 1 with the plan to be operation by the end of 2015.
