Women Who Own it Roundtable

Recently the Missouri Department of Economic Development Women’s Council and the chamber teamed up to host a women-owned business Roundtable. Approximately 20 women met to discuss the business climates and issues that are affecting business. Many different industry sectors were represented including Information Technology, Manufacturing, Service, Retail and Healthcare.
Workforce, Insurance, and Healthcare were some of the bigger issues discussed during the two-hour conversation. The women around the table all work and own businesses in Jefferson City and the majority of those businesses are affected by state business by being located in the capital city.
Workforce challenges are a big topic for all employers particularly with the low employment rate we are experiencing. Jefferson City/Cole County has one of the lowest unemployment rates (1.8% in October) in the State of Missouri and filling the talent pipeline forces creativity in recruiting. The group discussed best practices from utilizing staffing agencies to marketing benefits, flexibility and social media.
“It was great getting together with other business owners and discussing similar challenges in the workplace,” said Morgan Delong Costello, owner of DeLong’s Inc. “Whether you are a small or large employer, we all have similar issues. It is beneficial to collaborate and hear how others tackle challenges.”
The group plans to meet again in the first quarter of 2019. If you are interested in joining the discussion, contact Missy Bonnot at the Chamber.
