Today the Cole County Commission voted to not continue the economic development partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and the City of Jefferson for 2019. The Chamber is disappointed in that decision and believes it is more efficient and effective to work together as a team for community growth.

We are proud of the results our economic development efforts have produced over the last decade working together with the City of Jefferson, Cole County, and the private sector.  Working together, we have created over 2,000 jobs, $97 Million in new wages, and $272 Million in new real and personal property investment through a very challenging economic cycle. These jobs and wages directly impact area businesses and the quality of life while the increase in property investment and new wages have had a substantial positive impact to tax revenues for the City, County and Schools.

With the County’s decision to abandon joint economic development efforts with the Chamber and the City and instead utilize the services of governmental relations and lobbying firms, the joint representation model will change effective December 31, 2018.  Under current contracts, the Chamber will continue to provide joint economic development support to the City and County until the end of this calendar year. Chamber leadership will be working with the City in planning changes under the single representation model beginning January 1, 2019.  Randy Allen, President and CEO of the Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce stated, “We are disappointed in the decision by the County to separate efforts from those of the City and business community. We take our role as stewards of our business partners’ trust seriously and look forward to a continuation of economic growth.”

Moving forward the chamber will continue to provide economic development services to this community through the City of Jefferson and our 1800 members as we have done for the last 30+ years. The Chamber is committed to securing the resources necessary to continue the program of business attraction, business retention and expansion, workforce development, industrial site management and community development.
