Have you heard about a company located in Jefferson City called Morris Converting?  Many people haven’t!  It has been over a year ago that Morris Converting, a subsidiary of Morris Packaging, selected Jefferson City as the location to build a new facility. A lot has happened since that time!

Morris Packaging, headquartered in Bloomington, Illinois, specializes in creating packaging for the food industry.  When they first announced the new project, company officials said they would create 27 jobs and invest $3 Million in capital investment.  While their new building is under construction they set up temporary manufacturing space and are leasing space off of Missouri Boulevard Court.

“We have hit the ground running” according to President and CEO Jim Morris, “We are extremely happy with the quality of workforce in the Jefferson City area and we are expecting great things for our company and for our customers we serve.”

Morris Converting has hired 16 people to date with the majority of them former R. R. Donnelley employees.

Among the new hires is a new plant manager, Steve Loethen. Steve is originally from Cole County and brings with him a local perspective.  “Being part of a team that has worked to get Morris Converting up and running has been very exciting!  We still have a lot of work to do to complete and move into our new building but we have made great progress in a relatively short period of time.”

The new 32,000 square foot building is on 9.16 acres located in the Partnership Business Park between Alpla and Scholastic off of Algoa Road.   The site was previously owned by the Chamber and in September of 2013 the company completed a joint Development Agreement with the City of Jefferson and the County of Cole to provide infrastructure to the site.

“This project was made possible because all the right players worked together.” said Mayor Eric Struemph.  “Morris Converting will have a great economic impact on Jefferson City and the surrounding Mid-Missouri area and we are excited to have them in our community.”

Bob Gilbert, Chairman of the Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce says “Morris Converting will help diversify our manufacturing community as well as the skills of our workforce-- making central Missouri even more attractive to growing businesses. We welcome them to our manufacturing family and look forward to helping them grow and expand.”

Morris Converting plans on moving into their new facility by the end of the year.
