This October, Startup Jefferson City will host the eighth annual Pitch It & Win It event in conjunction with the Chamber’s Business and Lifestyles Expo which will be held at the Capitol Plaza Hotel. For the seventh consecutive year, Rural Missouri, Inc. (RMI) will be the main sponsor as they have graciously agreed to provide $5,000 to the winner. Since 2011, the event has offered budding entrepreneurs an opportunity to pitch their business ideas for a chance at winning startup capital. This event is a great motivator for all competitors, but the greater value comes as each participant will receive ongoing professional business counseling. All monetary awards are directed specifically towards business startup costs and granted based on valid receipts.
This fall, the Pitch It & Win It format will remain unchanged as members of StartUp Jefferson City will prescreen each business idea and select only five participants for the pitch event, and one of the five finalists will take home a total purse of $5,000. Again, each registrant may request additional business counseling assistance at any time before, during and/or after the Pitch It & Win It competition.
“The pitch event is a great opportunity to share ideas and strategies with local business professionals to gain vital feedback,” said Leslie Tanner, Vice President of Central Bank and a StartUp Jefferson City committee member. “It is the committee’s intent to identify and provide support to as many business startups as possible.” Providing aid to business startups is not an easy task, as each startup is somewhat unique unto itself and the early years can be extremely challenging from a cost perspective.
