Who We Are
Strategically located in between the state's two largest metropolitan areas, Jefferson City was established as Missouri's seat of state government in 1821. Today, Jefferson City and Cole County have grown from the humble beginnings of wilderness outposts to demographically diverse populations of approximately 41,000 and 73,000, respectively. Growing the arts, education and philanthropic institutions are the pillars of our quality of life.
What We Do
Via the implementation of its strategic plan (complete with performance measures), the Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce works to improve the community's quality of life via local institutions and is focused on enhancing the city's core, known as Old Town. The Old Town Action Center is a clearinghouse of information for individuals and businesses who are interested in redeveloping property within the area's boundaries. Incentives for redevelopment are offered by the Old Town Redevelopment Corporation, a community development corporation (CDC).
The Community Development section of the Chamber concentrates its efforts in the following topical areas:
• Old Town
• Riverfront Development
• Missouri State Penitentiary Redevelopment
• Transportation Enhancement
The Chamber's Community Development staff also work with the Cole County Communities Committee to widen the redevelopment conversation to the entire county-wide area.
