The Chamber continues its work to foster a greater entrepreneurial spirit by providing potential business start-ups with educational resources, mentoring and networking opportunities. The Chamber’s Small Business Committee will addresses issues relevant to the business community by offering three separate resource sessions focusing on entrepreneurial development, in addition to educational training via the Tuesday Topic seminar series.  For 2018, the committee is increasing their outreach offerings by partnering with the Missouri Women’s Business Center to provide additional training opportunities via the “Keys to Success” program.

Throughout the coming year, the Small Business Committee will offer multiple Tuesday Topic sessions aimed at supporting businesses as they strive to increase revenue, retain and attract quality employees and maintain a sustainable presence within the community.

For the seventh consecutive year, StartUp Jefferson City will host three separate business development events as a mechanism of identifying potential startups and offer direct engagement to help cultivate these business ideas.  In April, StartUp Jefferson City will host a session entitled Encouraging Entrepreneurship which allows participants an opportunity to speak with a business professional in a one-on-one setting.  The session is open to the general public and seeks to offer specialized business counseling in seven distinct areas – legal, accounting, human resources, marketing, permits, planning, and finance.

For the second consecutive year, StartUp Jefferson City will host Pitch It Prep training sessions which concentrate on addressing specific criteria necessary within a business plan and how to best present this information to prospective investors and/or financial institutions (the same criteria will be used during the Pitch It & Win It event).  An independent one-on-one session will be offered to anyone seeking guidance and consultation as they prepare for the Pitch It & Win It event in October.

StartUp Jefferson City’s third and final session for 2018 will offer individuals a chance to pitch their business ideas during the sixth annual Pitch It & Win It event to be held in mid-October.  The event allows participants an opportunity to present their business idea to a panel of judges in the hopes of securing working capital. For the fifth consecutive year, Rural Missouri Inc. (RMI), a SBA loan provider has gracious offer to sponsor the Pitch It & Win It contest.

Supporting small business and encouraging new startups is vital to any community.  Assisting the development of startups and growth of small businesses is no easy task, as each entity has similar but unique needs depending on their product or service offering.  Providing assistance to the business community is the overall focus of the Jefferson City Chamber, whether it’s by assisting through a direct educational program, quality of life project or job enhancement efforts.  Supporting all aspects of the business community raises the bar for all those involved.
