Jeff City START Committee is gearing up for another active summer. This initiative by the Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce seeks to connect employers with potential interns and to showcase Jefferson City to students interning in the area. The program offers interns opportunities to learn more about Jefferson City, to network with community leaders and young professionals, and to grow professionally and personally as they begin to make choices about their career paths.
Available Internship forms for Summer 2018 are currently on the START website: www.jeffcitystart.com. Completing this form does not obligate any employer to hire a specific individual, but does allow for the open position to be promoted by START to colleges, universities and students (through career offices, career fairs and via the internet). A list of available internships is available on the START website.
The program kicks off with a half day orientation known as JC101 – Summer Intern Kickoff. The Kickoff includes lunch with community leaders along with young professionals and a tour of our beautiful City showcasing to the interns all of the perks of our community. The Jeff City START program also offers interns three “Lunch & Learns” and the opportunity to attend a Young Professionals (YP) lunch meeting. Not only does the START program offer professional development, it also offers social and networking opportunities to the interns. Events are provided at no cost to the employer.
Jeff City START also offers a certificate program, Jeff City START Academy. Interns that choose to participate in the academy have the opportunity to obtain a certificate of completion for signifying that they are now better prepared for entrance into the workforce. A certificate is obtained through a points system. Each event or assignment is worth a certain amount of points. Once an intern accrues enough points to graduate from the academy, they are eligible to receive the certificate from the Chamber of Commerce. Graduating interns are rewarded their certificates at the Commencement event held at the end of the program.
