Jefferson City, MO - The Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce announced today Axium Plastics will be opening a new manufacturing facility in Jefferson City, Missouri. The company designs and manufactures plastic bottles.
The company evaluated several communities including St. Louis, Kansas City and Chicago before selecting Jefferson City. Axium Plastics will be occupying the Chamber owned speculative building on Shamrock Road located in the Partnership Business Park. The shell building is 50,000 square feet and the company is adding an additional 75,000 for a total of 125,000 square feet.
“We commend Jefferson City, Cole County, the Chamber of Commerce and their business partners for the effort they put forward during our selection process,” said Tammy Hoffman, Chief Operating Officer with Axium Plastics. “The benefits associated with this location made Jefferson City the best option for our manufacturing facility. We appreciate all of the support from the community and are excited about the opportunities that the Capital City will provide. Axium will be investing $25 million into this site and creating at least 70 new jobs to the community.”
Jefferson City Mayor Carrie Tergin commented, “We are very pleased and excited Axium Plastics has selected Jefferson City as its new location. This project has truly been a great partnership between many entities all working together toward a great project that will have a long term impact on our community. The cooperation between the City of Jefferson, Cole County, Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce, Jefferson City Public Schools and the owners of the company all coming together to bring resources and support makes this project a great win for the Jefferson City area.”
The Chamber constructed the building as an economic development tool to recruit new business to the area. Historically, the building has been made available at a reduced price for new and existing companies depending on the project specifications, the jobs created and an economic benefit to the community.
The City has authorized the Chamber to negotiate a tax abatement on real and personal property. The Chamber has completed return on investment (ROI) calculations for the project that indicate a net return to the City, County and Jefferson City School District of $1.9 million over the next ten years. The calculation assumes a total of $1.1 million of abatements over the 10 year period.
“We are pleased to add a new manufacturing facility to Cole County.” said Sam Bushman, Cole County Presiding Commissioner. “Axium Plastics will be a great addition to our existing employer base and we are thrilled there will be new jobs created in our community.”
