You have likely heard mention of the Jefferson City Chamber of Commerce’s Young Professionals, but you may not know exactly what all these “YPs” are actually up to. I’m here to tell you, it’s a lot! This dynamic and impressive group of professionals in their twenties and thirties are actively planning, implementing and managing programs, events, and campaigns in Jefferson City to keep the younger generations engaged in our community! This is not an easy task, but it is one our YP board and members are passionate about! The YP board works hard to identify what is most important to its members, such as providing professional development, education, community updates, networking and volunteer opportunities.

Each month YP hosts a networking luncheon which also features a professional speaker that focuses on professional development skills or gives updates on community initiatives. YP also host monthly socials, quarterly membership events and other special events through the year.

One of YP’s signature events, The YP Summit is a full day professional development seminar. The Columbia Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Club – EPIC, partners with YP for the event. The YP Summit attracts young professionals from across the entire state and wonderful presenters to boot. This year they have secured the Missouri State Capitol as the venue so it’s sure to be the best one yet!

YP just wrapped up their largest event of the year, The YP Missouri Wine Showcase. This fundraiser showcases Missouri wine and food parings prepared by local up-and-coming chefs from the Nichols Career Center. This event raises thousands of dollars for YP and this year will be donating half of the profits to the United Way of Central Missouri’s Early Childhood Initiative!

In addition to this wide range of events, YP also facilitate a dinner club, sports teams, a mentor program, book club... the list goes on! YP’s goal is to engage young professionals in our community which keeps the YP Board focused on providing opportunities in many forms and fashions for all of their members!

The best part of all of these initiatives is that they are member driven and managed. Their extremely active members lead the charge with creating, planning and implementing all of these events and campaigns! The experience gained by coordinating these hands-on activities is priceless and I for one, am extremely grateful for all of the opportunities the Young Professionals have given me and welcome (and encourage) others to join us!
